Frenchman loses 8th position to Lorandi

Giuliano Alesi has been handed a 1 place penalty by the race stewards for causing a collision with Alessio Lorandi on the final lap of this morning’s Race 1 at the Circuito de Jerez, dropping the Frenchman to P9 in the classification and promoting the Italian to 8th and tomorrow’s reverse grid pole position.

Lorandi and Alesi battled for most of the race, with the Italian looking to have done enough to hold onto the position: in the final sector of the last lap Alesi barged past as the pair touched wheels before the Frenchman emerged ahead for 8th at the flag. The stewards decision will reinstate Lorandi, handing tomorrow’s pole to the Italian in the process.
