After having spent the official pre-season testing with the Finnish team, the Spanish female driver Carmen Jorda will officially enter her third season in GP3 with Koiranen GP. The Alcoy native driver will complete in Koiranen GP's line-up, along with Swede Jimmy Eriksson and Uruguayan Santiago Urrutia for the second year of the Barcelona-based team.
With nine-events this season, which will see two new tracks compared to last year, with the addition of the Red Bull Ring and Sochi,as well as the Series returning to Hockeneheim, the three drivers of the Koiranen GP squad will have a lot to do to compete with the high profile field of this 2014 promotion.
Carmen Jorda commented: "Thank you to Koiranen GP for making this happen. I am delighted to join a team with their level of experience and success. I want to raise the profile of women in motorsport and prove that we can compete with the best drivers at the highest levels."
Team Manager Afa Heikkinen said: "We are very curious to run a female driver in the team. It will be the first time for us in such a level, and of course it is a big challenge, in sporting terms as well as inside the team. We will not see her as different to our other drivers, she is part of Koiranen GP and will have to follow our rules. Women in motorsport are very rare and at this level of competition, it is tough, so we will help Carmen, providing the best tools we can, to fight for good results this season and show that girls have their place in motorsport."
The pre-season tests are coming to an end today in Barcelona. The season will kick off on the same track on May 9th, with the first Free Practice of the year. On that same track where for their first year in GP3, Koiranen GP had an historical double marking a 1-2 victory in Race 2.
