Silverstone Post Race 1 Penalties

29 JUN 2013

Sainz & McKee penalised, Kujala suspended for Race 2

Following Race 1 in Silverstone, post-race penalties were imposed on the following drivers.

Carlos Sainz (MW Arden) has been issued with a 10-place grid penalty for moving to the left without leaving enough room for Lewis Williamson (Bamboo Engineering), which had a significant portion of the car alongside him. This penalty will be applied for Race 2 tomorrow. When the two drivers made contact, Williamson was unable to continue in the race. Sainz will start in P23 for tomorrow's race.

Melville McKee (Bamboo Engineering) took a drive-through penalty for a jump start whilst the Safety Car was deployed. This is a breach of Article 16.4 b of the Sporting Regulations and his drive-through has since been converted to a 20-second time penalty added to the elapsed race time. The Brit will start in P24 in Race 2.

Stewards deemed that Koiranen GP's Patrick Kujala breached Article 16.1d of the GP3 Series Sporting Regulations "extremely serious breach of the Regulations which had the potential to cause injury to others". This was following the incident with Trident's David Fumanelli at turn one when the Finnish driver collided twice with the Italian causing both drivers to leave the track, unable to continue.
