Ceccon fastest again in Jerez post season test

MW Arden's Kevin Ceccon fastest on day two in Spain

Italian ace Kevin Ceccon made it two in a row by setting the fastest time on day two of the test in Jerez after topping the timesheets on day one. Trident Racing's Emanuele Zonzini posted the fastest time in the morning in a wet session.

There were several adjustments to the driver line-up for day two with Vittorio Ghirelli replacing Jack Harvey at Lotus GP, with the Brit switching to Carlin. Rain had fallen prior to the start of the morning session so the drivers set their installation laps on wet tyres. There was an early red flag after Harvey's car leaked oil onto the circuit and the track had to be cleaned.

When the action resumed Jenzer Motorsport's Alex Fontana went quickest and as the track dried out the times tumbled at the start of the last hour as the majority of the drivers went onto slicks. Miki Monras for Atech CRS GP was in the top five early on after a strong showing with fourth quickest on day one of the test. MW Arden's Kevin Ceccon who was fastest overall on day one held P1 until fellow Italian Emanuele Zonzini (Trident Racing) shot to the top of timesheets on his slicks with Nick Cassidy (Status Grand Prix) and Roman De Beer in third and fourth.

The rain began to fall heavy in the final thirty minutes which saw Miki Weckstrom (Status Grand Prix) and Patryk Szczerbinski (Marussia Manor Racing) spin their cars in difficult conditions which brought the red flag out and a close to the morning session with the final eight as Zonzini, Ceccon, Cassidy, De Beer, David Fumanelli, Fontana, Szczerbinski and Tio Ellinas.

The sunshine briefly appeared as the afternoon session commenced which allowed the teams some valuable dry running time. The Carlin duo of Josh Webster and Harvey set the immediate pace with Robert Visoiu, Tio Ellinas and Ceccon taking turns at the top of the timesheets. MW Arden's Melville McKee jumped to P1 at the midway point with Giovanni Venturini and Ceccon trading places at the top soon after.

With an hour left on the clock, Ellinas and Zonzini both spun into the gravel, thus the afternoon session was red flagged. As the rain hammered down in the final thirty minutes, the drivers were unable to improve on the best times and therefore Ceccon finished the day on top again, a full second quicker than Ellinas. Nicolas Costa, De Beer, Cassidy, McKee, Venturini and Harvey completed the top eight.

GP3 Series will be back in action for the final post-season test of 2012 at Estoril, Portugal on 6th/7th November.
